Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival and custom celebrated to mark the love and affection between brothers and sisters. Rakhi is celebrated on “Shravan Sud Poornima” .
Raksha bandhan means Protection and Bandhan means bond, and as stated this day, sisters tie a string on the brothers wrist also known as ‘Rakhi’ . On this day sisters pray for the success, peace, and good health to their brothers. Although there is no history as to how this custom started but it is believed that during a war between god and devil, when Gods were on a losing end, lord Indra called Guru Brihaspati for his help and advise. Lord Indra wife Indrani who was also present in the court, before anyone said anything she said that she knew exactly how to make Gods win the battle.
Indrani ,next day on Shravani Purnima. tied a “Madadiyu” a sacred thread on wrist on Indra, when Indra was getting ready to go to the battlefield. When Indra entered the battlefield with the “Madadiyu” tied on his wrist, the devil begin to lose and lost the battle.
Another Legend attached rakhi, Yudhishtra: The eldest of the Pandavas is believed to have asked Krishna, how to protect himself, before the epic battle of the Mahabharata. Lord Krishna instructed him that he would be protected by the beneficial power of the rakhi.
During Rakhi shops start selling Rakhi in all colours and design, from ordinary ones to the ones in Silver and Gold. Sisters buy Rakhi and expensive gifts for their brother and on the day of Raksha Bandhan they tie rakhi on the wrist of their brother praying for his success. While Brothers on the other hand take a vow to protect their sister, and also gives a gift to his sister as a symbol of his love.
Not only Hindu but also the person of the different culture also believing the power of this magical bondage, its make a person either in any way to pay the duties for which he believed to be his sister or be a sister. Although Humanyun was not believing in the power of the Rakhi or even he was not interested to protect the Queen of Mewar Karmavati. But when he got a Rakhi with a letter that reveals the power the Rakhi as well as moral duties of a person when he has a sister or even when a person make or tell a woman to be a sister. But due to some reason Humanyun did not paid our moral duty for Queen at last Queen performed Jauhaar (to step herself into the fire ) along with the other woman to protect herself his dignity .But the moral of the story is that the even a small bondage made the Emperor of the India to protect his sister for the shake to protect the queen . Also we have a story that can be unforgettable is that the wife of the Great Alexander (Sikander ) also sent a Rakhi to the Indian King Poras with the promise that he would not killed the Poras during the war.
